Niagara Thunder Basketball Club parents must build up and support their player, other team members, and parents of other team members. Parents must possess high moral principals, be honest and fair, and set a superlative example for others. Parents are also responsible for providing suitable arrangements for the lodging, meals, and transportation of their player to practices, clinics, and tournaments. Parents are expected to abstain from unprofessional conduct such as: disrespect toward or harassment of game officials, fans athletes, or coaches; ethnic or racial slurs; and unsportsmanlike conduct. We expect parents to get involved with their player in practice at home.
Parental Code of Conduct
As Parent/Guardian, I will:
1. Remember that the youth are playing for their enjoyment, not your own;
2. Be encouraging, supportive and affirmative in regard to my child’s play on the court;
3. Support the coach, manager and the team;
4. Respect officials and accept their decisions, (right or wrong);
5. Volunteer my services and talents to the Team and Club when possible;
6. Familiarize myself with the rules of the game;
7. Refrain from “coaching” on the sidelines
8. Must refrain from discussing game-related issues with the coaches (i.e.: strategies, tactics, playing time). Coaches will only discuss player development with their own parents.
9. Discuss my child:
* only with the coach
* not with the manager or any other person
* only at a time mutually agreed upon with the coach
* never prior to, during or directly after a game
FUND RAISING
All players and parents are expected to participate in the fund raising activities. Each player is required to raise a minimum amount of money each year. Without the fundraising program, the cost per player to participate in our club would be exorbitant!
PARENT PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITIES
Niagara Thunder parents are openly encouraged to participate in our club. There are many areas where parents can contribute, whether skilled in basketball or not. They include:
Assistant coaches - Parents can help with drills during practice and assist on the bench during games, attending to injured players, supplying towels and water, encouraging the team, tracking substitutions, etc.
Statisticians - Game stats are an important part of developing players. To accurately track player performance, we need two stat keepers per game.
Trainer - Anyone who knows CPR and has a basic background in first aid is welcome to volunteer for this position. Unfortunately, our players do risk injury every time they step on the court. A background in weight lifting would also be helpful for this position as you could develop a strength training program for each player and supervise their progress.
Fund Raising Committee - Parents who serve on this committee would be in charge of carrying out the current fund raising plan, and developing new methods for obtaining funds for the club.
Solicit Donations of Consumables - We use tons of bottled water, towels, and first aid supplies (especially cold packs) during the season. If you know a business person who sells these things. Don ' t be shy. Ask for a case of water, or something else.
Other Committees - Parents also have the opportunity to serve on the Tournament Committee, the Recruiting Committee, or the Publications Committee.
Volunteer Screening Model
All Niagara Thunder volunteers that have direct contact with the players are required to follow this program that sets out 10 steps to assess risk and need for action related to specific positions in an organization. This includes completing and submitting for review a Police Record Check prior to contact with the players. For complete details click on 'Policies & Procedures' in this section & go to the Volunteer Screening Model section. |
